Video Inspiration:
This video basically consists of nature within the city, focusing on the tranquility and simplicity of it. I tried to use shots where the city was in the background to emphasise the importance of it.

Avatar - The Tree of Souls...

I watched the movie Avatar to derive inspiration for my space, attached are images of the "tree of souls." In the film  the tree is a giant willow-like tree that is said to be the closest connection the people have to their land and themselves. There is an extreme spiritual significance and the tree is a place for the Na'vi people to communicate with the biological network that exists through their home of pandora.  The director describes it as a "a big input-output station." The tree of souls is capable of transferring a specific consciousness from one body to another

I would like to do a similar concept in my space, a tree with the power to connect or reconnect and indiciual with themselves. A place of reflection and perhaps premonition of the future.

Some inspirational photographs taken on Mount Victoria, I wanted to convey the idea of the nature being the prominent space with the city in the background. Too often it is reversed, we are constantly trapped in a concrete jungle and we don't really get to experience nature. When you block out the distractions and noise of everyday life and focus on simplicity and nature it becomes easier to find/meet with yourself. In these images I tried to blur the city in the background as my space will be solely focused on nature, within the city.

Week 2: Research.
I decided to focus my space on the meeting between mind and body of an individual. A place of relaxation, reflection and simplicity. I researched "yoga spaces" on pintrest, in the library and online to discover the key elements and physical objects needed. I like the idea of minimalism, crisp white, stone, candles and plants which is what i will eventually incorporate into my space.

Week 2: Plan, Elevation & Section.

Boat shed Model

A quick model of a possible boat shed idea.
The thatched room opens up to let in the light of day.
The tree is the main feature of the space, and facilitates the meeting between mind and body. The simplicity of the space is optimum for channeling your inner self and integrating mind and body as one.

Week Two: Meetings- Tea Party

Week Two: Meeting:
When asked to research a form of meeting, I decided to delve into something close to my heart.. tea.

Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured leaves of the tea plant, and is often shared between friends or family as they meet for catch up's. Tea originated in China as a medicinal drink during the 16th century, In the 17th Century it became more popular and began to spread exponentially though out different cultures. Each culture adopted its own flavors of tea as well as means of serving and consuming it, however there is a uniformity between cultures, tea is often used as a facilitator to social gatherings.

It is considered customary good manners for a host to offer tea to guests soon after their arrival. Tea is generally consumed at home; outside the home in cafés. Afternoon tea with cakes on fine porcelain is  sometimes available in quaint tea-houses or when people decide to host "Tea Party".

I would like to design a white, calming space with candles, fairly lights, a roaring stone fire and several stone pots with delicious teas brewing away. A place for friends and family to meet, unwind and spend quality time with one another.

The art of tea is in the meeting between the hot water and the tea itself, the length of that meeting determines how strong the tea is, and is tailored to the person consuming it. Other components such as milk, sugar, cream etc can be added to this meeting to further benefit the overall experience.
